It's almost what I had hoped Nightcap would've been. yes, I am in lust at the moment, but love might follow. I like latakia as a condiment, even sometimes as a chief component take HH Latakia Flake for example but this stuff is just disgusting. I smoked about ten pipe fulls and was ready to sue by the last bowl. If this were my pirate ration, I'd have tossed myself overboard before the thieving and pillaging even started. My wife likes the smell of this tobacco the best of all the tobacco I have, your wife probably won't. The smoke is never hot, so no issue with tongue bite even if you puff like an train getting it lit. A velvety, and almost full bodied, smoke with a strong taste of Latakia-woodiness, thats perfectly balanced by the creamy sweet, buttery burley and cavendish. Pipe Used: meer. I ordered a one-pound brick of Pirate Kake (#970P). It might need a relight or two. It crumbled up pretty easy and packed up well. This does blast my palette out completely after smoking it, so it is resigned to evening smokes until I can strengthen my tongue. It's highly recommended for Latakia fanatics or smokers who like their mixtures on the monochromatic side, without too many taste changes during their smoke. I truly enjoy reminiscing on the flavor and the smokey smell in my moustache well after my bowl has been finished. Please don't buy it and then tell everyone it's crap. With glorious color changes, leaves falling, and watching one of my German Shorthairs lock up on point on a grouse or a plump woodcock trying to remain undetected. A little drying helps the taste a little and keeps your pipe dry. The Cavendish doesn't moderate this blend at all, and the Turkish is AWOL. This bulk tobacco came as one large slab, with sharp-cut edges, like it had been hewn from a monster brick. Smoky and tastygreat room note and a delight to smoke! Its like a quadruple IPA, and probably should be served with one - the combination of nasty wet brush fire and Lemon Pledge could strip the tastebuds down to oblivion, at which point Pirate Kake would taste good. It is not at all one-dimensional, even if it obviously is a Latakia forward blend, given its 75% proportion. So, I sat back down and enjoyed the rest of the bowl! The smokiness of the Latakia is perfectly balanced with the nuttiness of the burley and just a little tickle of the spice of oriental. It deploys a large palette of all distinct aromas you find within the wheelhouses of Latakia and Orientals. Barely any sweetness in the blend, and if you do find it, it doesn't stay. This is for those dirty pirates!!! An occasional excess has its place in life, and Pirate Kake is an excess. Turns out I am. Truly a blend for Latakia aficionados. It is smooth, no harshness at all. While perhaps one dimensional I love this rich Lat bomb in one of my English billiards. I initially bought a tin, liked it, then eventually bought a pound brick which I placed into two of the large mason jars. It's incense like. It also is not much of a crowd- pleaser in terms of room note. And on. If this has 75% latakia, I guess I could smoke pure latakia. But what does come as a surprise, even though this packs a heady punch of smokiness, there's still a small amount of room for the nutty Burley and woody Oriental's; the Burley more-so. I immediately thought of a bouquet of dried herbs. This perfume burned off some where in the upper third and the rest of the smoke proceeded down the bowl as, believe it or not, a light English. This became my favorite pipe tobacco blend halfway through my first bowl. I believe I detected the same oak scent in a tin of Dunhill London Mixture . Such a joy to smoke very nice lat forward mix. Its not an everyday smoke but is a great go to when in need of a latakia fix. The primary notable tin note and flavors are or course, Latakia! The Burley is woody and dry, but are detectable in this smoke. Step away from this if you are not a latakia addicted. The aroma seems to be fairly stong. . Rich, ever-changing as it burns, long-lasting and cool, PK is one of Craig Tarler's grandest accomplishments, the stuff of tobacco dreams! This is not a great mixture but a great mistake. I had smoked samples from friends and a small tin of this in the past but waited to review until I could get a pound to start on just to see consistency from tin to bulk. I love it. The unlit note gives more than a suggestion of lots of Latakia, so on with the actual smoke: It comes as no surprise that the leading flavour's the smoky Latakia. I have some difficult lighting and smoking (a feeling of weakining burning) more than other Latakia blends. The crumble kake really helps the flavor profile and to keep the moisture higher so it doesn't dry out. One must either have a fried tongue or be a masochist to enjoy Pirate Kake. A pinch off the kake was easily crumbled in my palm, and one match got it going. And for the most part, it is. With the majority of this being Latakia, you should know what to expect.
