This is a great free campsite however best suited for caravans as the sites are not very level and not really suited for tents.

There is also no mention of Hyden, which was shown on signs at the intersection in Brookton! Imagine a drive, a thousand miles long with no turns or bends, across a vast featureless plain with repetitive landscape, and hundreds of kilometers between towns and service stations. Two of the mens parents have flown from New Zealand to Esperance, while the third mans parents will arrive soon. The Coolgardie-Esperance Hwy is routed to the east of the roadhouse, bypassing the original townsite.

Note the dodgy coverplating job on Varley and also note that now there's no advice as to the next fuel stop north of Lake King. Time for a coffee and a look at the Skylab Museum. The road from there to Cascade townsite is gravelled and reasonably wide. The harvest walls are very effective on this rock. this was a extremely well planned trip with great people. The Beverley turnoff is passed at 100km/h before the highway winds its way through undulating farmland to Brookton. The earlier rain we had experienced to the east had dissipated. It was no accident that the telegraph track went right through here. This short section of Westdale Road was formerly part of the Brookton Highway prior to the present alignment being constructed to ease the curve and provide a safer junction. There are no AD signs or trailblazers for northbound traffic on approach to this intersection. Beverley is not located on the route, but can be reached via Westdale Road which branches off midway to Brookton. Note the coverplate covering the fuel symbol and someone's clever addition to the kilometre plate. One of the whites, Ted Knowles, got into an argument with an Afghan whohad washed his feet in the water. These were known as woodlines.
